Lew Sandler died on August 13, 2015 in Dallas, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Born in NYC on July 2, 1936, he grew up in Albany, NY. He graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY and went on to earn a law degree from Columbia University in 1961. His first law job was with the Port Authority of NY/NJ where he assisted with the condemnation and taking back of 13 square blocks of downtown Manhattan, which would become the World Trade Center. Lew was a partner in three prominent law firms in Manhattan, specializing in real estate, before joining Schneider and Sherman Assoc., a NJ based real estate investment firm, in 1977. It was a change that resulted in his relocating to Dallas in 1980 and Schneider and Sherman Assoc. would become Southwest Property Trust. A close friendship of the SWP partners remains to this day. In the mid 1980’s Lew was chairman of the Coalition of Publicly Traded Partnerships and testified as expert witness before several Congressional Subcommittees in Washington, DC. He was nationally recognized as a hard driving, innovative leader in the real estate industry with 50 years of transactional experience in virtually all phases of real estate and related financing and security transactions. Lew loved life, was an avid fly-fisherman, fishing beautiful rivers from Alaska to Argentina, a collector of wines and fine single malt Scotch. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Willy, daughter, Stephanie Morrison, husband Justin Morrison, grandchildren Charlie and Anders, son Derek Sandler, his wife Lauren Sandler, grandchildren Sydney, Cooper and John Parker. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 22 at 2:00 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy in Dallas.
