Lorea Annette Everitt Stanfield was born July 27, 1936 at the home of her mother and father in Payne Springs, Texas just a few minutes before her beloved twin sister, Florea. She passed away on October 27, 2016 in Dallas, Texas.
The family story is that when the doctor discovered that another baby was coming, he placed little Lorea in the oven for warmth. Lorea was small and frail at birth and for most of her early years, but her twin sister Florea was always by her side to protect and care for her. During their early years, the twins enjoyed the popularity and curiosity in their schools as is the case with many twins. And yes, they did play the usual twin trick with boys and adults by trading identities with each other. The twins were Identical in appearance and intellect. They even scored the same grade on all their school tests, prompting one teacher to separate them because she thought they were cheating. Although they were sitting across the room from each other, they still correctly answered and missed the same questions. Lorea had many passions and interests: She developed a love of dancing in her early years. She loved doing the “Dallas Push”, and would frequent local Dallas dance clubs like “The It’ll Doo Club in east Dallas (still open today) and the popular nightclubs owned by Jack Ruby. (Lorea even once met the infamous club owner.) Lorea loved Elvis and saw every Elvis movie ever made. She loved Barbies and collected them like crazy. She loved decorating for the holidays and always dressed special for the occasions. Lorea had a love of jewelry and dressing to the nines…the more bling the better. She loved to travel. And when Lorea married a military man, she traveled across the world and lived in such exotic places as Morocco, Casablanca, and Hawaii. She also lived in some not so exotic like Houma Louisiana Winnemucca Nevada. Her love of travel continued throughout her life enjoying annual trips oversees, trips to the Twins Conventions, and trips with the traveling gypsies. Most of all, Lorea loved being a twin. Lorea and Florea participated in the national twin conventions, and even won “Most Alike” several years. The twins didn’t always dress alike, but they did when it mattered most. After her stint as a military wife, Lorea and her family settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she raised her family and worked at the American Red Cross. On her retirement, Lorea came back home to the Dallas area and spent the last 20 years living with her twin sister “Flo”. They were together until the very end. Much like the beginning of their life where Flo took care of Lorea, the last couple of years the roles changed and Lorea took care of Flo. Eventually, both twins moved to the Windsor Senior Living Center and experienced a renewal of purpose in their social life. They took great pleasure from the center’s activities, especially the Friday afternoon happy hours where Lorea renewed her love of dance.
Her final days were with Flo by her side.
