Living God, Although my tears are
flowing, I feel blessed that when my
mother took her last breath, she
entered heaven's gates.
I miss her dearly, but I cling to your
promise of salvation for those who
place their faith in You.
May she rest in Paradise until that
final day when you return, and we
are caught into the clouds with you.
Help me to honor her memory by
living a life of selfless love and service.
Amen.
Maria De La Luz “Lucy” Lopez Martinez, 95 of Dallas, Texas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 30, 2025. Lucy, daughter of Trinidad and Petra Lopez, was one of three sisters and two brothers, and the only surviving sibling. Lucy attended St. Anne’s Catholic High School and married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life of 66 years, Henry “Blue” Martinez in 1952.
In her early years, she was a dancer, performing at St. Anne’s school events with her father. She also went to nursing school but ended it when she married in 1952. Lucy was a devoted wife who cherished sharing life's journey with her husband. As a loving mother, she enjoyed raising her three sons and two daughters and eventually her grandchildren. She became a member of the Guadalupana Association in 1970 and served as President in 1980 and 2000. Watching her brother Trini perform in person on stage in Las Vegas and on TV around the world made her smile and cheer with much pride! Lucy was an accomplished cook, preparing meals both for her family and for many of her brother's celebrity friends during their performances in Dallas.
Lucy and Henry were part of the Cursillo Center, West Dallas, a Catholic community organization that supported spiritual leadership, for many years in the 1970's.
Through her devoted patronage, Lucy enlisted the support of her brother Trini which resulted in a series of benefit concerts at SMU for the Cursillo Center, afterwhich a hall at the Center was named, Trini Lopez hall, in his honor.
Lucy is survived by her children, Teresa Ann, Joseph Henry and grandchildren, Dominick, Alexandra, Michael. Salvador and grandchildren, Celina (Stefan) and Salvador Jr. Rosario (Bernard) and (Joe McAteer) grandchildren, Joseph E. (Lisa) and great grandchildren, Elenor Eschete and Edward “Blue,” Anastasia (Taylor), Trini (Lori) and grandchildren, Trini Jr, Lola Rose, Desi (Corey) and great grandchildren, Julian “Blue” and Iris Rose, as well as numerous nephews and nieces whom she loved very much!
