Manuel was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 3, 1943, to Manuel A. Berber Sr. and Angelina C. Berber. He passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 83, and was reunited with his beloved wife, Judy.
Manuel grew up in Fort Worth on Elm Street, where he attended Diamond Hill High School and enjoyed spending time with his friends from the Suarez family. He often shared stories of swimming and boxing as a teenager at the local Boys Club. Around the age of 20, he worked at a hide company with his father, later became a caddie at Rockwood Golf Course, raced cars, and built engines before finding his lifelong career in the flooring industry.
He began working with carpet and tile, then discovered a true passion and gift for hardwood flooring. If you were one of the lucky ones to have a handcrafted Berber Hardwood Floors custom inlay, consider yourself blessed. Manuel had an incredible eye for design and a natural talent for geometry. He could walk into a space and immediately envision patterns and one of his signature custom “stars.” He worked long hours, often seven days a week, to provide for his family.
Manuel married Judy on June 24, 1973, and they shared 45 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, sitting on the back porch smoking a cigar and seemed to be good at just about anything he put his mind to. Manuel loved to laugh and make jokes, and he held onto his sense of humor until the very end, bringing smiles to those around him even in his final days.
Manuel was a deeply selfless man who found purpose in doing whatever was needed for his family—especially for his wife, whom he loved devotedly. He expressed his love through action: showing up, helping, fixing, and caring for others without ever asking for recognition. His children and grandchildren were his greatest source of pride, and nothing made him happier than talking about his family.
Manuel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy; daughters Teresa Hensley and Teresa Elder; his parents, Manuel A. Berber Sr. and Angelina C. Berber; and his siblings, Johnny Berber, Molly Kitner, Arthur Berber, and Albert Berber.
He is survived by his children: sons Edward Elder and Victor Elder; daughters Christina Castleberry and spouse Curtis, and Kim Walker. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jared Elder and wife Jen; Clay Walker; Trina Holland and husband Trent; Camille Castleberry; Carmen Castleberry; and Cole Castleberry and wife Maddie. His great-grandchildren include Norah Elder; Avery Pearl Holland; and Scottie Christine Holland. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members who held a special place in his heart.
