

Margaret Hudson Foley, age 101, entered into Eternal Life on April 5, 2025 in her longtime Dallas home surrounded by family. Born on January 8, 1924 in Deming, New Mexico, the youngest of the six children of Benjamin Alfred and Grace Billingslea Hudson, she attended a one room school, the Sunshine School. Her family then moved to Blythe, California where she graduated from Palo Verde Union High School in 1942.
She went to work as a long distance telephone operator during World War ll in Coronado, California where she once placed a call for General MacArthur. She also placed weekly phone calls home for a young Navy sailor from Dallas named Charles Schumm Foley. They married on March 16, 1946 and raised a family of seven children in Dallas, Texas.
A beloved matriarch, she was devoted to family, her Catholic faith, and her friends. She loved babies! Motherhood was her life’s work. An expert seamstress, she lovingly made clothing for herself, her children and grandchildren. She loved smocking, knitting baby blankets and bonnets, gardening, volunteering at St. Monica, running carpool, baking chocolate chip cookies, celebrating holidays, family birthday dinners, caring for grandchildren, having tea with milk, graham crackers, Van Johnson, Jack LaLanne, Anne of Green Gables, visiting family in New Mexico, California, and Oregon, taking family vacations to Texas beaches, graciously welcoming friends and neighbors into her home, and being a Mimi to many.
She is preceded in death by Foley, to whom she was married 62 years at the time of his death. She is survived by her children Kathleen Foley, Ray (Mary) Foley, Patricia (Frank) Sherwood, Eileen (Lindsay) Rice, Colleen Foley Turner, Margo (Bruce) Jacobson, Christopher (Rebekah) Foley. Grandchildren Dr. Elizabeth Carroll (Aaron Breckenridge), Daniel Carroll, Patrick (Chrissy) Rice, Steven (Mari) Rice, Matthew (Cady) Rice, Katie (Marshall) Sullaway, William (Cristina) Turner, Brianne Foley, Jalyn Jacobson (Jonathan) English, Joel Jacobson, Grace Jacobson, Jeremiah Foley, Shannon Bull (Stephen) Rios and Tyler Bull. Great-grandchildren Sydney Carroll, Charlie and Tommy Rice, Arlo and Edie Rice, Levi Rice, Charlie Sullaway, Sofia Turner, Hallie and Bonnie Hampton, Audrey English, Rory and Reagan Rios.
A rosary followed by a funeral mass will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church on April 14, 2025 at 10:30 followed by interment at Calvary Hill. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Monica Catholic Church/Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
