

Margie was born November 12, 1937, to the union of Add and Charlotte Thomas in the city of Oakdale, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor T.S. Hankins.
Margie’s early education was in Oakdale, La. before going to New Orleans to live with her Sister Lucille. While in New Orleans she attended Hoffman Middle School and Booker T. High School. She returned to Oakdale and completed high school at Allen High. Margie attended Grambling University and retired from Cleco Electric Company as Regional Supervisor.
Margie became a member of St. Peter Baptist Church in Oakdale, Louisiana. There she served as Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School Program, Sunday School teacher for the Young Adult class, and was an active member of the Adult Choir and Women’s Auxiliary. She also served on the Missionary Board and led the Sunshine Band, which was an organization empowering young women to let their light shine for God.
Margie was married to Donald Smith and to this union two daughters Michelle Smith and Debra Willis. After being caregiver to her father, mother, grandmother, grandfather, sisters and brother, she fell in love with Theodore Holmes. They were married and moved to New York where they attended church, football games and travelled the world. After Ted’s retirement they moved to Carrollton, Texas and joined the Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony family.
After the Lord called Ted home, Margie moved into a mother-in-law suite that her son-in-law and daughter added to their home. There she remained until her death, where she was surrounded by Jerry, Debra, Jeremy and Lindsay. Margie spent her last years continuing to bring people to the Lord, sponsoring many organizations, making unforgettable memories and building relationships that will never be forgotten.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Holmes, father Add Thomas, mother Charlotte Thomas, sisters Lucille Johnson, Ethel Holmes, brothers Calvin Hill Sr., E. J. Thomas and grandparents Dennis and M.V.M.Tripplett (Big Mama).
Margie leaves to celebrate her memories two (2) daughters, Michelle Smith and Debra Willis (Jerry); one son/nephew Calvin Hill; two (2) stepchildren Treva Russ and Kirk Holmes; brother Joseph Thomas (Annette); grandchildren Donna Arp, Michael Johnlouis, Jeremy Willis and Lindsay Willis; step grandchild Christopher Russ; godson Jacques Spencer; two (2) goddaughters Patti Evans and Charetha Ceaser Rankins; nine (9) great grandchildren, nine and a half (9.5) great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and many others that loved her dearly.
Margie was truly an angel on Earth. She not only touched the souls of many, but she also saved the souls of many. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, warm/loving hugs, amazing cooking, unconditional love and her grace. She will be missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of life for Margie will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony, 4396 Main St, The Colony, TX 75056. A committal service will occur Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 1:15 PM to 1:30 PM at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. A visitation will occur Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 4396 Main Street, The Colony, TX 75056.
