Margie B. Veal (Roddy) was born in Bullard, TX on February 10, 1923. She was the 3rd of 8 children born to Benson & Martha Roddy and spent most of her childhood growing up in Jacksonville, TX. Margie moved to Dallas to attend Draughon’s Business College (Class of 1942) and as a result was sent out on secretarial jobs with a starting salary of $60 per month.
Margie & Jake met at North Temple Baptist Church before World War II and were married on September 25, 1949. They moved into their home on Broadmoor Drive in Dallas in 1951 and resided there until their deaths. Margie was the proud mother of 2 children: Larry Veal (Jackie) of Rochester, NH and Susan Harris (Mike) of Dallas. She was the most loving grandmother to Ashley Harris (Jen), Andrea Veal (Michael Clauss), Clifton Harris (Heather), and Blake Harris. One of Margie’s greatest joys in life was playing with and spoiling her only great-grandchild, Brooklyn Harris.
Margie committed her life to God and to bringing others to Him! She was a founding member of Lochwood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for decades as well as Vacation Bible Schools and backyard Bible clubs. Margie ministered to all the children of her neighborhood and provided countless Bibles, Bible tracks and candy/sweets, but most of all prayer and love! She was a fierce and dedicated prayer warrior along with her dearest friends, Margaret Ann, Albertine, and Revanel, as well as a longtime member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.
Margie is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, sisters Etha Mae Renfro, Joy Kruger (Cal), Pert Garraway (Fred), brother Kenneth Roddy (Joyce), Sue Veal, and countless nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Jake Veal, parents Benson & Martha Roddy, brother Frank Roddy, sisters Melba McKnight, Dorothy Colemere, Margaret Ann Veal, and niece Paula Renfro.
