Marilyn Harris Ray Corrigan was born in Houston, Texas on January 18, 1929 to Mary and DeWitt Ray and went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2018. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving children and sister. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1947 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1951, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After graduating, she returned to Dallas and made her debut with the Idlewild Club and also presented in Galveston and San Antonio. It was at Fiesta in San Antonio where she met her husband of 58 years, Leo, who predeceased her. They were married in May 1953 at The Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, where Marilyn remained involved as a devoted member of the Altar Guild. All five of her children were baptized there and two were married at Incarnation, as was her eldest granddaughter. Marilyn was a loving example to her family by always helping others; this was one of her many strong suits. She supported numerous and meaningful causes, including Breast Cancer and Alzheimer’s Research at UT Southwestern, The Dallas Arboretum, The Lamplighter School, Big Thought, and many more. She established A Distinguished Chair in Pediatrics at Children’s Medical Center and served on the boards of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Ballet, Incarnation House, and Founders Garden Club. Marilyn was a devoted gardener at Sandy Creek Ranch, her favorite spot in Ravenna, Texas. She planted, tended, harvested and spent countless hours raising her vegetables. She found joy and contentment when working in the soil and loved seeing her hard work come to fruition. She found great joy in canning, pickling, and freezing the harvest for her family. From the time the children were young, the family spent a great deal of time at Sandy Creek Ranch, a tradition that continues to this day. Her family learned the value of hard work, caring for the land, and the beauty of the outdoors through her example. Her greatest desire was to inspire her children and grandchildren in their journey through the valleys and into the heights of Christian living and sharing that journey with their loved ones. Marilyn’s brother, DeWitt Ray Jr., predeceased her. She is survived by her five children: Leo III and wife Susie, Mary Livingston and husband Pete, David and wife Emily; Catherine; and Alice Carruth and husband Scott. She also leaves behind her sister, Nancy Stephenson, many nieces and nephews, and nine grandchildren: Leo IV (Sarah Claire), DeWitt (Alison), John, Hannah (Evan), Maggie, Allen, Harris, Emma, Sara and Taylor; and three great grandchildren: Clara, Leo, and DeWitt. She is so thankful for the efforts of her precious caregivers and dear friends: Lady Rogers, Stephen Bell, Laura Andino, and Mike Bardwell, along with Elee Richardson, LaShan Gilley, and Rosa Fuentes. Her devoted doctors, Dr. Jon Weissler and Dr. Craig Rubin, were a gift to her and her family. A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Incarnation on Saturday, January 13th at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Meals on Wheels 1600 Viceroy Dr., Ste. 400 Dallas, TX 75235 vnatexas.org/give or The Church of the Incarnation 3966 McKinney Ave, Dallas, TX 75204 incarnation.org
