Marlon Dwayne Stewart, lovingly known as Marty, was born on September 2, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Audrey Lee Sturdivant and Melvin Stewart. On April 21, 2026, he peacefully slipped away from this earthly life.
Marty attended Pickett Elementary School and graduated from Macomber-Whitney Vocational Technical High School with the Class of 1978, completing the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program. He later attended the University of Toledo for several years, where he met the love of his life and best friend, Darla Joyce Staunton, a meeting that would blossom into a lifelong bond of love and devotion.
In 1990, Marty and Darla moved to Irving, Texas where they were married and built a life together rooted in love, loyalty and partnership. Marty worked a number of jobs over the years before beginning a long and dedicated career with AutoZone, where he served as a manager and assistant manager for 27 years. He was a hardworking and dependable man, committed to doing what was right and giving his best to both his employer and those he worked alongside.
Marty was a simple man in the very best sense of the word, easygoing, soft-spoken, humble and kind. He was deeply devoted to his family, spiritual in nature, and so open, accepting, and loving that others naturally felt comfortable in his presence. Blessed with a gentle spirit and a good sense of humor, he could bring ease to any room.
Ever curious and always learning, Marty was a natural trivia whiz with an amazing memory and seemed to have an answer for almost any question. He loved music from an early age and carried that love with him throughout his life. He also enjoyed reading and had a quiet, creative soul. An artist at heart, Marty appreciated music, art, design, and fashion, and he especially enjoyed shopping for antiques with Darla. He was a great listener, good-natured, laid-back and full of warmth.
Family was most important to Marty. He was a devoted husband and exceptional father who enjoyed family moments spent watching TV shows and movies, dining around town, beach vacations, going to casinos, laughing and talking together.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Darla Stewart, his partner of 44 years; his son, Malon R’Julian Stewart; his daughter, Dala Rozell-Audrey Stewart; his brother, LaMont Maurice Stewart (Charlotte); his sister, Anietie Ollie Antia-Obong; special aunt Loretta Sturdivant; special uncle Tyrone Sturdivant (Gloria); special cousins Brian McPherson; Seanna Wesson; John Rodney Sturdivant along with other nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and dear friends. Marty genuinely loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
