“A time to be born” The life of this independently courageous man began in Franklin,
TX, on June 17, 1926, as Odist Gray and Susie Chambers welcomed the birth of their
son, Marvin Gray.
“A time to train up a child” Marvin’s formal education began in Franklin public
schools. In June of 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army. He displayed great
bravery as he fought in World War II. Marvin was honorably discharged from the
military January 6, 1949. Retired from LTV with over thirty years of service.
“A time to embrace” The God fearing man accepted God as his personal lord and
savior at an early age. Marvin was a current and active member of Cliff View Church of
Christ, in Dallas, TX where he actively served on the finance team.
“A time to love” Marvin met and fell in love with the love of his life, Gladys Spraglin
and they were united in marriage July 16, 1955.
“A time to die” On Friday, March 19, 2021, Marvin crossed over into eternity to rest in
the arms of his heavenly father. He transitioned peacefully at his daughter's residence,
surrounded by his loving family, daughter Cleo granddaughter Keshi, and grandson in
love, Ed. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Gladys Gray and
ten siblings, Robert Chambers, James Earl Chambers, Alandas, Chambers, James Earl
Chambers, Roland Chambers, Dennis Jackson, Alva Mae Ward, Vermel Autry, Arlena
Jefferson, Glenn Chambers, and Ivy “Doug” Chambers.
“A time to Mourn” Marvin leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Cleopatra
Kerley; granddaughter, Keshi O’Neal (Edward); three great grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan and Courtney; three step children, Johnny Johnson, Gora Stratford and Ronnie Williams; three sisters, Naomi Coleman, Margaret Jones and Eva D. Stansell; one brother, Ollie Chamber and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
