Mary Louise Bragg Elkins, age 82, of Oak Point, Texas, born October 19, 1942, entered into heaven’s rest Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She graduated from Duncanville High School in 1961 and from Arlington Bible Baptist Seminary (now Arlington Baptist College) in 1966. She was filled with love for her Savior, her family, her friends, and all whom she knew, young and old. Her love for children was evident throughout her 25 years as a preschool, kindergarten, and second grade teacher. She enjoyed working with the senior citizens of DeSoto; she loved them as much as they loved her during her 12 years working as the DeSoto Senior Center Activities Director.
She was married to Frank James Elkins for 61 years. Her guiding principle was “live well, love much and laugh often.” Whether it was family dinners, game nights, holiday festivities, or spending time with her many grandchildren, she was always laughing.
Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not grow weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Albert W. Bragg and Virgie F. Shuffield Bragg and her husband Frank J. Elkins.
Mary is survived by her son, Mark Elkins, and his wife, Sherry; her daughter, Charlotte Hughes, and her husband, James; her daughter, Myra Ortmann; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232. A funeral will occur Friday, September 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A committal will occur Friday, September 26, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Laurel Land Mem Park - Dallas.
