Mary Margaret Mut

Mary Margaret Kampe Mut died unexpectedly on March 8, 2011 at the age of 84. She was born in Houston, Texas on March 29, 1926 to Albert C. and Cecile T. Kampe. After graduating from St. Agnes Academy, she earned a B.A. from Rice institute in 1945. She married her college sweetheart, Stuart C. Mut, and they shared their lives for over 60 years until his death in 2008. She raised five children with a blend of humor and patience. She was a devout Catholic parishioner, accumulating an impressive volunteer resumé from Boy Scout den mother to St. Rita School Board Member. In addition to providing love and guidance to her grandchildren, she became an accomplished painter as well as enjoyed her many friends from her church circle, her golf group, and her OBOE (Old Broads Out Eating) club.

Mary is survived by her children Stuart C. Mut, Jr. and wife Marta, Stephen R. Mut and wife Neyeska, David L. Mut, Margaret E. McConn and husband John, and Alan D. Mut and wife Elaine, and ten grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Chapel at Sparkman Hillcrest. A Rosary will be said at 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at St. Rita Catholic Community, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, TX. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, TX. Pallbearers will be Luther Bartlett, Ed Capen, Dick Lombardi, Kevin Mut, Neal Pedersen, and Frank Schuh. There will be a reception at St. Rita following the internment.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Rice University with reference to the Mary M. Mut Scholarship in the memo section, and should be mailed to Rice University, Office of Development, MS-135, P.O. Box 1892, Houston, TX 77251-1892, Attn. Michael Morelius.
