Mary Virginia Payne was born April 2, 1927, in Amarillo, Texas, to her parents Lillie Pearl and Harvey Hudson. She passed away on December 10, 2015, in Duncanville, Texas. Mary Virginia grew up in South Dallas and spent a year in Children’s Hospital when she was seven being treated for pneumonia, which led to her fear of hospitals and illness. When Gordon returned from his service in World War II, their mothers introduced them to each other. Virginia married the love of her life, Gordon Payne, January 5, 1946, and they lived in Dallas County all 69 years of their marriage, spending many of those years living next door to Gordon’s mother and father, Chara and Alec Payne. Virginia was a Supervisor at the Federal Reserve Bank for 35 years. She was preceded her in death by her younger brother, Harvey, always known as “Sonny”, along with her mother Lillie Pearl and stepfather, David Weaver, and her mother and father-in-law, Chara and Alec Payne. She and Gordon spent hours and hours shopping for antiques and their home is a testimony to their expertise. Virginia will be remembered as a friend to many, always with a kind word of encouragement and a laugh among friends. She is survived by her husband, Gordon, and her three nieces, Janet Wilson Mulder and Barbara Wilson Revak from California, and Brenda Hudson Flanigan of Dallas.
