

Her parents OB and Viola Warren, her husband Horace Bluitt, Jr., One son, Courtney D Bluitt, one Grandson Kevin B. Bluitt, Two brothers, Jack L. Warren, Thurman B. Warren and one Sister Gloria Warren Shepherd and her In-Laws Horace Bluitt, Sr., Roy M Smith and Hazel Bluitt Smith all preceded her in death.
Mattie accepted Christ as her Lord & Savior at an early age. Mattie was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Ferris, Under the leadership of Rev. Cloud. In 1962 Mattie joined a new church in the community. Mattie has been a member of Denley Drive Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. Over 60 years she has served as a member of the Gospel Choir, Sanctuary Choir, Laura Lockett Usher Board, Sunday School Secretary, Clara Rocquemore Circle, Culinary Committee and the J.J. Finley-Martha Circle, and the General Mission. In 2000, she was selected as the Valentine Queen. In 2008 she was the first runner-up to the Women of Year at Denley Drive. In 2011 Mattie was selected as the Woman of the Year. In 2016 she won the first Chili Cook-Off and the People’s Choice award at the church. In May 2016 She won 1st Place by the Judges and the People’s Choice Award in the “Cruise Around The World”.
Mattie was educated in the Ferris Public School system. She was Dunbar High School’s Valedictorian for the Senior Class of 1958. In the early 70’s Mattie worked for her father-in-law at Best Yet Cleaners. She later worked for Tasty Bakery for over 17 years. She also became a private-duty Caretaker and worked for the Dallas Public Schools.
Mattie met and married Horace Bluitt, Jr. on November 25, 1961. To this union two sons were born:
* Van Bernard Bluitt
* Courtney DaWayne Bluitt
Mattie is the Matriarch of her family. She has always had a strong love for family. In 2018, She was honored as her grandfather’s oldest living heir. In 2018 she Co-Hosted the Warren family reunion, on that afternoon she was crowned Warren Family Reunion Queen.
On January 1, 2026, Mom said that she was surprised to see the new year. January the 12, 2026, The Lord called her home and lay down and rest. She was a Cancer survivor but Cancer did not take her out.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one devoted and loving son: Van Bernard Bluitt, 2 Grandsons: Christan Stevens (Sharon) of Garland and Matthew Warren Bluitt Sr. (Adrianna) of Duncanville, Texas. Great-Granddaughters: Arieal A. Bluitt, Bri’Ana A. Ephraim, Bella Bluitt, and Miracle Bluitt. Great-Grandsons: Matthew Warren Bluitt Jr., MaKai D. Bluitt and Malachi D. Bluitt of Duncanville. Brothers: A. Gus Warren of Lancaster and General Lee (Steve) Warren of Dallas, Texas. Sister: Vivian Warren Hogan of Richardson, Texas, Sister-in-law: Bessie Bluitt Merewether of Corsicana, Texas. Special Nieces (who were like daughters): Chriss Sheppard Arnold, Stacie Tave Blow (Demetriues), Nakia Walker Belcher (Rodney) and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends.
