Maureen Cronin Smith, born July 27, 1942, passed away on November 6, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Maureen grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Houston with her family at age 13. The Cronin and O’Toole families were full of scholars and teachers, and the apple did not fall far from the tree. An excellent student, "Maur" became the first woman in her family to go to college, and graduated from Spring Hill with an English degree. She joined the unofficial family profession and taught at St. Anne Catholic School and St. Agnes Academy until she had children of her own. She then went to work in the corporate world as a paralegal for many years. Retirement brought her to Dallas to be closer to her family. Maureen loved to read and spend time with her friends and family, primarily her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. Maureen is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Cronin, her son Scott Smith, and her sister Pat Matula. She is survived by her son Colin Smith and his wife Angela, grandchildren Brendan and Abby Smith, brother Tim Cronin, and countless extended family.
