

Melba graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas, TX the Class of 1964. She went on to work for the United States Postal Service were she retired from after 42 years.
Melba accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was a proud member of Bexar Street Baptist Church. She was proud to serve under the leadership of the late Pastor T.C. Marshall and First Lady Marshall and the current Pastor Andrew Jackson and First Lady Jackson. She loved her church and served on the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Benevolence Committee, the Usher Board and other committees. Her favorite song “ The Lord will Make a Way” and her favorite scripture was Matthew 6:9-13:
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Melba found joy in going the casino and playing bingo. She enjoyed it so much that she referred as “Going to Work”.
Melba’s most prize possession was her family. Her son was the most important person in her life. Through him she gained a son, Marquis. She felt her family needed to grow so she prayed and asked God for more additions to her family. She asked God for a wife for her son, He granted LaMessha. She asked God for a wife for her grandson, He granted Cecilia. She asked God for a Great-grandchild and He granted her Eliana. She was grateful for all she asked God for, and she shared her gratefulness with all who leant an ear.
Melba is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Hightower and Nola Nelson Taylor, her siblings Doris Taylor Stafford, Lillie Taylor Edwards, Ora Jean Stancill, Trannie Southall, Authur Green Taylor, Lloyd Taylor ,Lawyer Taylor, Elven Taylor, and Myee Taylor.
She leaves her precious memories to her devoted son, Palmer Lee Cotton, Jr. (LaMessha); grandson, Marquis Wadley (Cecilia); great-granddaughter, Eliana, nephew, Lloyd McCray, Jr. and niece Deborah Padilla, all of Dallas, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, Bexar Street Baptist Church family, United States Postal Service Family and her Bingo Family and others who will cherish her memories.
