Dick was born on March 10, 1928 in Hico, LA. After attending Lousiana Tech on a baseball scholarship, he was drafted by the New York Yankees. Dick and Robbye met in college and married shortly thereafter. Upon his retirement from baseball Robbye and Dick settled in Minnesota where he began a career in insurance. In 1963, wanting to return to the south, Robbye and Dick moved to Dallas where Dick started “Dick Foster & Associates” which later became “The Foster Group.” Dick was considered one of the best in the business and was highly regarded throughout the insurance industry. He went on to open offices throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Dick was impeccable with his word, worked hard and handed out smiley face stickers that said “have a nice day” to everyone he called on. Dick was highly active in the community with various charities and a faithful member of the Methodist church throughout his life. A perfect example of living the servants life, serving everyone around him with generosity, care and love. Dick was a wonderful husband and enjoyed taking Robbye dancing, dining and traveling. They also enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with family and friends. After a long and highly successful career, Dick retired. He was then able to devote more time relaxing at his lake house and ranch. Pop is what his eleven grand children called him. Always up for teaching them to load a shotgun, bait a hook and drive a boat. They all adore their Pop and always jumped at an opportunity to spend time with him. The funeral service will be held at 12 o’clock noon on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the Northwest Highway Chapel of Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Dr. Don Benton officiating. There will be a reception to follow in the L.N. “Bill” Sparkman Family Lounge. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Dick’s honor. Dick, Pop, Dad will be missed greatly and never forgotten. We know he is with our heavenly father and watching over us all.
