Mertie Claire Goss died on November 2, 2010 at the age of 88. Mertie was born in Bernice, Louisiana to Jessie Cravens Henry and Frankie Bailey Henry. After graduating from high school, she moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, then to Dallas wanting to experience life in the Big City. In Dallas she attended SMU then worked for the Magnolia Petroleum, Delhi-Taylor Corp. and later on joined Edmund Mudge Oil Company until she met and married the love of her life, her devoted husband of 58 years, James (Jim) W. Goss. Mertie was an avid gardener, cook and golfer enjoying playing golf at Brook Hollow Golf Club and the Dallas Athletic Club. For more than 25 years, she volunteered for the Salesmanship Club, selling sponsorships and tickets for the Byron Nelson Golf Classic. For at least 20 of those years, she was top ticket sales producer. Mertie was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of downtown Dallas, and it was there she and Jim were married in 1952 by the Reverend Bob Goodrich. She was also a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class. Mertie is survived by her husband, Jim; son, James Goss; daughter, Kim Goss Anbouba; grandchildren, Margaux Claire Anbouba and James Anies Anbouba; son-in-law, Imad K. Anbouba and many nieces and nephews. Our family expresses sincere appreciation to our mom’s loyal caregiver, friend and angel, Gloria May. The family will receive visitors at Sparkman Hillcrest Friday, November 5th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Northwest Highway Chapel of Sparkman Hillcrest, Bishop John Wesley Hardt officiating. In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Aldersgate Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75201 in her memory is suggested.
