Ms. Mickey Lee Townsend

Mickey died on January 29, 2016 age 67, in Waxahachie, Texas after a brief illness. She was born on October 4, 1948 in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded by her parents, Claud T. and Bonnie Mae (Bolin) Townsend and a sister Gail Ruth Compton. She is survived by one sister, Sammie Sue Lee of Waxahachie, Texas.

Born with Down syndrome, Mickey was one of Heaven's "Special Children.' She lived at home with her parents until her mother's death in 1981 and afterwards with her sister Sammie until just a few months ago when she had had to have nursing home care. She lived most of her in Dallas and in her early years attended children, Inc., and later the East Dallas Center for the Developmentally Disabled.

Mickey was bright, gentle thoughtful, and possessed the Townsend sense of humor. She could also be stubborn and independent. She had an astonishing memory for people, music, events, and television programs. She always introduced herself with a handshake and a smile.

Mickey is also survived by one niece, three grand nieces, four great grand-nieces, and one great grand-nephew.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Mickey on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at the home of Sammie Lee, 216 Bison Meadow, Waxahachie. Beginning at 12:30 pm, the day of remembrance will include a memorial service at 1:00 pm.

Donations may be made to Tails of Hope Pet Rescue of Waxahachie, Texas, or a charity of choice.
