I would like to share a few thoughts and memories I have of Minerva Ramirez Trevino, known by most as Mine or Minnie and known by her granddaughters as Memo.

Mine had a difficult childhood.  She clung to her only sister, Julia, for support.  Mine and Julia remained very close throughout their lives and their families shared many good times together.
Mine had to work as a child to help support her family.  Because of this and other responsibilities she didn't finish high school as a teenager; but later got her GED, became a pharmaceutical technician, and worked in pharmacies and hospitals for several years until she retired.  Mine and her husband Raymond worked hard to provide for their own daughter many of the benefits and opportunities they did not have growing up.

Mine loved to sew and she was good at it.  She made many dresses and other items of clothing for her daughter and granddaughters as they were growing up, as well as decorative items for her home, friends and church.
Mine was a talented cook.  She herself at like a bird (very little), but she wanted everyone else to eat to their hearts content.  I remember always gaining a few pounds whenever we visited their home or they came to visit ours.
Mine was a good neighbor, very welcoming, and had many friends.  I remember a typical trip to their home in Corpus Christi would usually include a party with lots of homemade favorite foods and deserts, live music with their trio musician friends, singing and dancing, and lots of great conversation and story-telling.
I remember Mine liked to play Loteria.  She also collected pig ornaments and gag gifts.  She loved her Novela stories and there was no changing the TV channel when one of her stories was on.

Family was very important to Mine.  She would do anything for her husband, her daughter, and her granddaughters.  I had a good relationship with Mine and I am happy to be her son-in-law.  

After Raymond's passing in 2010, Mine went to live with her sister Julia's children in the Edinburg/McAllen area of South Texas.
We were able to visit her occasionally in person but we mostly visited through weekly phone calls.  As dementia and other illnesses set in and she lost the ability to speak coherently, we continued to tell her stories about our activities and to send her pictures and videos of her family including her 1st great-granddaughter.

Above all else, Mine knew and loved God, and was a strong prayer warrior for her family, friends and church.  We are sad at her passing, but relieved that she is no longer suffering; and we are hopeful that she is now rejoicing in God's presence and is being reunited with Raymond and other loved ones that have gone before her.
