Murdis Louise Hygh was born to Hayward and Georgia Hygh in Karnack, TX. She united with Antioch Baptist Church in Lee, TX at an early age. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Karnack and later from Espanola Beauty School in Marshall, TX.
She married Lee Durham and moved to Dallas, TX. They moved to Historic Arlington Park, a community built for black men who served in World War II. To this union five children were born, Gloria, Jerome, Kenneth, Rickey, and Anthony Durham.
Murdis was a charter member of the Arlington Park Baptist Church. She served in the Women’s Mission Society, GA Girls, church choir, official greeter for the church and was a member of the neighborhood social club.
Murdis loved decorating, gardening, and traveling with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Durham, sons, Jerome and Kenneth Durham.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Gloria (Andrew), sons, Rickey and Anthony Durham, sister, Willie Ruth Pace, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
