On August 15, 1947, a warm sunny day in Canton, Ohio, a spirited soul was sent from heaven into the welcoming arms of William and Mary Ardell Roach. They named her Myra Nanette. However, her proud father, looking down at her lying in her crib, nick named her “Susie Bell” – the only name she was ever called by her family all of her life. Later on, others called her Myra or “Roach.”
Valuing education, Myra excelled in school. She graduated from North Texas University and was a member of the Alpha PHI Sorority. She had a very successful career in business and retired from Challenger Freight lines after many years of service.
August 1, 1970, she wed her soul mate and love of her life, Gerald Sam McWilliams. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage, almost never to be apart. Into this marriage was born a son, Christopher Michael, the joy of their life.
By plane, boat, motorcycle and car they traveled the world seeking the beauty of nature, historical sites, and the customs of the people. Along the way, she collected tea pots, fearing she would be known as “The Tea Pot Lady.”
Myra collected people as well, those who were drawn to her vibrant personality, beautiful smile, her laughter, zest for life and warmth of her caring heart. They drew close to her and her to them. She was an avid Texas Ranger fan, living to witness their first World Series Championship.
On a cool and cloudy day, November 10th, 2023 in Arlington, Texas she peacefully and beautifully released her spirit into the heavens from where she came. She left behind memories of her smile, her sense of humor, her laughter, memories of good times and cherished moments. She left us her love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and son and brother Dick Roach.
Survived by brothers Michael Roach and wife Donna, John Roach and wife Lisa, sister Cathy Dexter and husband Ric and sister Patsy Gigax along with numerous nephews, nieces and dear close friends.
