Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 21, 2023, at the age of 68. A seventh generation Texan, Nancy was born to Jack and Lewise Swingler on August 19, 1954. Her family spent their early years in Bremond, TX before settling in Waco, TX. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1972. She stayed close to family during her college years and graduated from Baylor University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in education and it was there in 1974 that she met her future husband, Bart. They married in 1977 and had three children, William, Samantha, and Graham. Nancy worked as an elementary school teacher before moving to Dallas and raising their children in University Park, TX.
She loved to take her family to California each summer to visit Bart’s family and spend time in Carmel, CA. She enjoyed fires at the beach, shopping at the boutiques in town, dinners at Casanova, and the cool, foggy weather. Nancy’s favorite place to visit in the world was Paris. She loved her twice-yearly Paris trips with her sister, Laura, often selecting the latest French fashions for her granddaughters. They attended fashion shows and especially loved touring the ancient cathedrals. Their favorite café became Le Hibou for café crème and oeufs à la coque often staying nearby so they could walk over every day.
Nancy loved antiquing and found beauty in everything around her. She had a true gift in curating and styling her treasures. Her idea of a perfect day was to have her family and friends over to her home in Highland Park, TX or to her ranch in Pittsburg, TX where she would cook for her children, rock her grandchildren, sit around a fire to visit, watch movies together, and drink wine and laugh. She loved animals and enjoyed spending time with her many cats, dogs, horses, donkeys, and cows. She provided a warm, secure, and loving home for her family and endlessly supported her children in all of their endeavors. She was kind, loved to laugh, put her family ahead of herself, and will be deeply missed.
Nancy is survived by her children: William Matthew Schillaci, Samantha Lewise Schillaci, and Graham Andrew Schillaci (Hannah Margaret Schillaci); her granddaughters: Quinlan Marie Schillaci, Autumn Margaret Schillaci, and Grace Ann Schillaci; her siblings: Jack Swingler (Ann Swingler) and Laura McGuire; her sister-in-law: Carol Loew (Bill Loew); her aunt: Jean Blunt; and her cousins: Betty Williamson, Ann Withrow, Lynn Swygert, Ellen McCrary, and Ann Holford. She was predeceased by her husband: Bart Edgar Schillaci; and her parents: Jack Marvin Swingler and Lewise Blunt Swingler.
