

Newell “Blake” Blakemore Jr., passed away on August 9, 2025, at the Dallas VA Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 63 years old. Born on December 20, 1961, in Gary, Indiana, Newell was the son of Peggy Patterson Page and Newell Blakemore Sr. He was lovingly raised by his mother Peggy and his bonus dad Bill Page. A 1980 graduate of Kimball High School, Newell went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps, where he dedicated six years of his life in San Diego, Japan, and the Philippines.
Newell’s greatest joy was his family. He first married Staci, with whom he shared two sons, Newell III and Myles. Later, he married Adrianne and together they raised his third son, Bishop. He is survived by his loving partner, Dawn, his three sons, and his cherished grandchildren, Nash and Nova, who brought him immense pride and happiness. He also leaves behind five devoted sisters Montrease, Tammy, Tonie, LaKrecia, and Nikki as well as his parents Peggy and Bill.
Newell built a fulfilling career serving his community as a Law Enforcement Officer with Dallas County, where his dedication and professionalism earned the respect of his colleagues. Following his retirement, he continued his passion for service by working as a part-time security guard at “Our Calling, ” a Christian homeless shelter in Dallas. One of his proudest moments was working side by side with his eldest son, Newell III.
A man of many passions, Newell loved sports and fitness. He was a basketball player in high school, a boxer during his Marine Corps years, and later found joy in golf. Music was central to his life, his first live concert was Parliament Funkadelic, which sparked a lifelong love for funk. He taught himself bass guitar and enjoyed recording himself playing music, especially when joined by his grandchildren.
Newell was known for his humor, optimism, and generosity. He had an uncanny ability to turn any situation into a positive and often reminded others that “you never know what tomorrow will bring. ” He was a true comedian who always had a joke ready, and his easygoing nature made him a confidant to many. A history buff, he enjoyed reading about American presidents, battles, and cultural icons, and took pride in researching his own family’s history through Dallas County records.
He will be remembered as a devoted father, a loving grandfather, a loyal friend, and a man who gave selflessly to others. Newell’s life was a celebration of love, family, service, and joy. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
