

Nita Schwartz Hampel died on January 22, 2012 in her home in Grace Presbyterian Village, Dallas. She was 103. Nita was born in Palmer, Texas, on November 3, 1908, to John and Dovie (Harkey) Schwartz, who were early settlers of Palmer (1881).
She graduated from Palmer High School and attended Trinity University where she was an honor student. She married Max Hampel of Palmer, who preceded her in death in 1977.
For many years, Nita was an underwriter for a major insurance company in Dallas. She was an active member of East Dallas Christian Church for almost 60 years. She continued to keep in touch with the fellowship there with her love, concern and regular contributions even after her move to the Village.
Nita and her husband sponsored children at Juliet Fowler Children’s Home in Dallas, and her other philanthropic endeavors were many. She was a life-time supporter of the Salvation Army, Meals-on-Wheels, the visiting nurse program and the Texas Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. She also gave generously to the Caring Fund and building programs at Grace Presbyterian Village. Donations in her memory may be made to your favorite charity or a church of your choice.
Survivors include her niece Wanda Schwartz Cain of Waxahachie and grand nieces Candace Ahlfinger of Waxahachie; Patti Baker, Dallas; Glynda Schwartz Rice of Ransom Canyon; Deborah Hornickle of Austin; Carol Ross of Owasoo, Oklahoma; and others.
Services’ will be held in Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation from 2:00-3:00 P.M.
