

Oneta Greenwood was born on March 8, 1936, in Dawson, Texas, to Mack McKinnley Cavitt and Julie Watson, Oneta was educated in the Dawson Independent School District. She as a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was married to the late Harold Greenwood and spent many dedicated years working at AT&T which became Western Electric and Lucent Technology until her retirement.
Oneta’s life was centered around her love for God and her family. Her church family also held a special place in her heart. She was a member of Carver Heights Baptist Church before becoming a chartered member of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in various ministries. At Antioch, she was active on the Usher Board, the General Missionary Society, and served as President of the Esther Circle for many years. As President, Oneta led with dedication and creativity, keeping members engaged through retreats, community service projects, elegant Thanksgiving dinners, and holiday gift deliveries for seniors. Under her leadership, the Esther Circle became known for its heartfelt service and fellowship. Her efforts were recognized when she was honored as Woman of the Year.
Oneta served faithfully until her health declined, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her unwavering dedication to her faith, her family, and her church will be remembered and cherished forever. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Oneta Cavitt Greenwood, a loving mother and devoted servant of God, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, compassion, generosity, and love. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Greenwood; daughter, Linda Gates and grandson, Anthony R. Cavitt.
Oneta is survived by her two sons, Harold Dean Greenwood and Johnnie Greenwood; brother, Will E. Cavitt; grandsons, Kenneth Cavitt (Tina), Andre Petty, Harold Moore, Jefferey Moore, Terence Anderson and Bryant Brewer; granddaughters, Sinnamon Roy and Nissy Anderson; a great grandson whom she reared, Dominic Roy; great grandchildren, James Simmons, Jessica Simmons, Kenneth Cavitt, Jr., Maria Cavitt, Bethany Cavitt, , Edwin White, Montrell White, Mercedes White, Jasmine Cohea, Drate Smith and Andre Petty, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
