Patricia Ryan, a beautiful woman of style and substance, passed away on November 21, 2024. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and made her home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for many years before relocating to the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas, Texas where she lived at the time of her death. She was 76 years old. Her beloved husband, Phil Kiester, predeceased her in 2017.
Pat lived a life full of adventure, beauty and many loving friends. After graduating from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, Pat returned to Cleveland where she began her long career in the retail business world at Higby’s Department Store. She moved to Pittsburgh where she was a buyer for the Horne’s Department Store, Kaufmann’s and Finlay Fine Jewelry. While in Pittsburgh, she met and married Phil, the love of her life. The two relocated to Dallas where they were both employed by Tuesday Morning.
After leaving Tuesday Morning, Pat started her own business—Jewels of Jaipur—which allowed her to mesh her love for beautiful jewelry with her creative design talent. She regularly traveled to Jaipur, India to search for jewels and vintage and antique jewelry that she used as inspiration for her own specialty pieces. She sold her jewelry at markets on the east coast, Dallas and at stores in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Pat saw life as an adventure to be experienced. With Phil, she traveled extensively in Europe, South and Central America and Asia. Although Italy was probably her favorite European destination, she relished her vacations on the west coast of Mexico and gleefully planned every moment of her many trips to India. Pat was blessed with many friends with whom she traveled and visited. She always looked forward to returning home to her loving and adorable dog, Bruno, a red poodle.
Pat was an artist in many ways. She dressed to perfection and decorated her home with a unique, eclectic flare. Pat was happiest, and at her creative best, when she was painting in water colors. She was dedicated to her art for decades. Pat started to paint when she was in Pittsburgh, first by taking drawing and painting lessons at the City Arts Center. Later, she studied impressionistic techniques with Evelyne Boren at her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico and on numerous painting trips to Italy and France. Pat’s paintings dot the homes of many of her friends as lasting reminders of her softness and substance.
Pat is survived by countless friends all over the country that she gathered over her lifetime. She had a gift for keeping a friend forever.
A celebration of Pat’s life will take place in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the new year.
