Peggy Eubanks Sommers

Peggy Sommers passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Arlington, TX. She was born in Ivanhoe, TX on December 29, 1936 to Leslie Samuel Eubanks and Mary Lee Reid Eubanks. She was employed by the University of Texas Arlington from 1978 to 2014 where she started as an Assistant Professor, worked her way up to being a John and Judy Goolsby Distinguished Professor, and ended her career as Professor Emeritus, Department of Finance and Real Estate from 2012 on. Peggy received numerous honors. Some of which were Who’s Who in American Education, in the 21st Century, in the World, in America, of American Women, Among America’s Teachers, of Women, in Business and Finance, in the South and Southwest, the International Who’s Who of Professionals, of Professional and Business Women, and Strathmore’s Who’s Who. She also received many awards such as the Distinguished Service Award at UT Arlington, Distinguished Research Record Award, Outstanding Tenure-Track Faculty Graduate Teaching Award, the W. Paul Green Memorial Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching, Department of Finance and Real Estate, three Outstanding Graduate Teacher Awards, and the College of Business Administration Award. Peggy particularly enjoyed working with her students on their theses for their PhD programs. Besides being a remarkable educator, she was a kind and gracious woman loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband Marc Sommers, of Arlington, TX, her stepchildren Kenneth McMurrey Swanson of Midland, TX, Lucile Anne Swanson Arntzen of Riverside, CA, Sally Elizabeth Swanson of Austin, TX, and John Bedford Swanson of Missouri City, TX, and her stepgrandchildren Mary Anne and Katherine Arntzen and Michael and Madison Swanson. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225.
