Phyllis Joan Garcia was born on January 7, 1945 in Jefferson, Texas and passed on December 7, 2019 at the age 74 in Grand Prairie, Texas. She passed peacefully in her sleep and is now at peace from the awful disease of dementia.
Joan attended Crozier Technical High School in Dallas Texas where she met the love of her life and future husband, Phillip Garcia. She graduated in 1962, got married and went on to hold many different job titles. She loved being a teacher’s aide the most and made a career of it, until she started her family. At that time, she decided to become a stay at home mom to her boys, Phillip Jr. and Heath Garcia.
Joan enjoyed collecting a myriad of things which included cookie jars, ceramic roosters and lots of jewelry. She loved family game nights with her boys, their wife’s and the grandkids. She hosted the shenanigans almost every weekend. She would cook her famous hamburgers and kick everyone’s butt at mexican train. She most loved and was great at the game of poker, as well!
Joan’s pride and joy were her grandkids, Curtis and Ashlie Garcia and her great grandkids, Abigail and Adilyn Rocha and Gisele Garcia and Eryke “Chippy” Stephen. She enjoyed every moment she was able to spend with them.
Joan was survived in death by her spouse Phillip Garcia Sr., son Phillip Garcia Jr. and ex-wife Marta Ruiz, son Heath Garcia and wife Tabrina Garcia, granddaughter Ashlie Garcia Rocha and husband Antonia Rocha, grandson Curtis Garcia and wife Erica Garcia and great grandkids Abigail and Adilyn Rocha and Gisele Garcia and Eryke “Chippy” Stephen and countless other family and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Versie Gonzales and in laws Juan and Lucy Garcia.
Service in memory of Phyllis Joan Garcia will be on Tuesday, December 10th at 12pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home Chapel
