Renae (Berotte) Burgess

Born on December 14, 1951, in Tyler, Texas to Willie Berotte and Mattie Lee Hicks, Renae was the eldest of two of children. Renae moved to Dallas and graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in 1970. She went on to attend Texas Women’s University (TWU) both Denton and Dallas campus, studying to become a nurse.

In 1974, Renae was married to her high school sweetheart, John H. Lewis, and through their union, they were blessed with two sons, John Jr. and Clifford.

Renae continued to enjoy life and was remarried to Morris Burgess Jr. They enjoyed taking care of each other, traveling and spoiling grand kids.

Renae worked at Sears Roebuck and Company for many years until she retired. Renae strongly instilled in her family the value to education and hard work and particularly stressed education due to her own sacrifices.

Renae was preceded in death by her Stepfather, Clifford More; Father, Willie Berotte; Stepsister, Barbara Ann Holmes; Brother, William Berotte Jr.; Husband, Morris Burgess Jr.

Renae leaves many to cherish her memories; mother, Mattie Green; two sons John Lewis Jr. and Clifford Lewis; Stepsons, Dr. Morris Burgess III and Lonnie Burgess; grandchildren, Kendelle Lewis, Kaiden Lewis Lauren Burgess, Morgan Burgess, Lonnie Burgess II, Janae Burgess and Lillye Burgess; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, and acquaintances.

She was, and still is, “Mom” to all that knew her and met her.
