Richard Douglas Frazar was born on October 10, 1944 in Wharton, Texas to Joe N. Frazar, Jr. and Ellen Douglas Frazar, and passed away in Dallas, Texas, November 26, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson's and dementia.
Dick was one of three Frazar sons who grew up in the small town of Wharton, Texas, where he excelled in football, baseball, and academics at Wharton High School, graduating as Class Salutatorian, Class President, and Class Favorite in 1963. He entered SMU that fall, became a member of Phi Delta Theta where he made many lifelong friends, and after earning his BBA in Finance in 1966 began his banking career. It was also that year that Dick met his soon to be wife, Barbara Diane Kuykendall (Cookie), whom he married in 1968. Dick and Cookie lived in Dallas most of their married life, and had two sons, Richard Harrison Frazar and Kevin Donovan Frazar.
In Dallas, Dick worked at First National Bank and Mercantile National Bank, and then in 1981 he and Cookie moved their family to Abilene, Texas to become the President of InterFirst Abilene. They made many dear friends and fell in love with West Texas. Upon returning to Dallas in 1986 Dick joined the staff at Reunion Bank as Executive VP and then at Northern Trust where he was Managing Executive of the Park Cities office. He joined the board of Westwood Trust Private Banking as Sr. VP for his final working years before retiring in 2015. Dick leaves behind a legacy of great banking colleagues and a legion of cherished customers and friends.
Dick was an avid golfer, always a hopeful SMU sports fan, enjoyed River Cruises along the Danube, skiing and fly fishing in Colorado, and enjoyed volunteering at his church and North Dallas Shared Ministries where he served on the board for several years. His greatest joy in life was bursting with pride as he watched his sons and grandsons succeeding in life to become good responsible Christian men, and traveling all over the country to watch Harrison play golf!
Dick is preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Brooks Frazar. He is survived by his wife Cookie, sons Harrison (Allison) and Kevin, brother Gen. Joe N. Frazar III (Marilyn), sisters Lisa Frazar and Dr. Kathy Frazar, and grandsons William Harrison Frazar, Ford Frazar, and Slayden Frazar.
A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, December 9, in the main sanctuary of St. Michael's & All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers please make donations to North Dallas Shared Ministries or to the Building Fund at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church.
