AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Richard Meade Huff

28 octobre 1934 – 25 mai 2025
Avis de décès de Richard Meade Huff
AUX SOINS DE

Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home & Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park

Richard Meade Huff departed this world on May 25, 2025. He was known to his family and friends as “Dick” and to his eight grandchildren and soon to be ten great-grandchildren as “Grandpa”. He will be remembered for his strong devotion to his family.

Richard was born on October 28, 1934, in Glade Springs, Virginia, to Nellie Huff (Cate) and Oliver Meade Huff. He was the third generation of Huffs to be born on the family farm, a historic fort formerly known as Kilmackronen, where he lived his first seven years. His family then moved to Dallas, Texas where he would live almost every year of his life.

He attended North Dallas High School, excelling at baseball, winning the Dallas Batting Title in 1952. Dick was also elected Senior Class President, most popular boy, and ROTC Adjutant that same year. After high school graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma. A brief walk-on for the freshmen football team, the Air Force ROTC, and the ATO fraternity kept him quite busy as he pursued his accounting degree. However, his most significant accomplishment was meeting the love of his life, Jean Mauldin. He was “head over heels” about her, and they were married at Crown Heights Methodist church in Oklahoma City, on December 20, 1955. They celebrated sixty-eight years together before her death last May. Richard joined the United States Air Force, piloting KC97’s during the Korean War. During their time in the military, Richard and Jean moved several times throughout the United States, while welcoming their three treasured sons. Richard served five years in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Captain. He continued to serve his country for several years in the Reserves.

Richard and Jean then made their home in Dallas where his profession was a pilot for Trans Texas Airways and Braniff International. The family briefly moved to Florida, but quickly returned to Dallas, where they raised their family and were active members of St. Francis Episcopal Church.

Richard is survived by his sons, Richard Meade Huff, Jr. (Nina) of Carrollton, Stephen Paul Huff (Gwen) of Dallas, Lawrence Oliver Huff (Dawn) of Southlake; his grandchildren, Trevor Goodman (Rachel) of Austin, Ian Goodman (Sarah) of Salado, Catelyn Huff Wilson (Robert) of Little Rock, Benjamin Meade Huff (Kayla) of Dallas, Mary Katherine Huff Wegner of Carrollton, Stephen Michael Huff (Lacey) of New Haven, CT*, Keaton Harrison Oliver Huff and Greyson Patrick Lawrence Huff of Southlake; his great-grandchildren, Rhydian Goodman, Luke, Anderson, and Keller Goodman, Robert Martin IV and Virginia Marie Wilson, William, Wesley, and Lorelei Jean Wegner; *Huff twins due in October; Brother, Peter C. Huff (Nancy); nieces Laura Jean Huff Wehrle (Chuck) and Dr. Carol Ann Huff-Newberry (Jamie), and his brother-in-law, Kyle Buchanan (Carole), two grand nephews and nieces.

Our gratitude to the staff at The Plaza at Edgemere who cared for Richard with so much compassion the last years of his life.

A private Interment service will be held at Church of the Incarnation.

Please make any memorial to the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring our United States Veterans or the American Cancer Society.
