Richard Thomas “Tommy” Miller, 82 passed away on January 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family and generosity. He was the youngest of Lawarnce and Ruth Miller, born in Houston on September 2,1943 and raised in Galveston, TX, along with his brothers and sister, Jimmy, Norm and Janet.
Tommy grew up helping his dad and brothers at their Gulf Oil service station and garage. Tommy graduated from Ball High in 1961 and attended North Texas State for a few semesters. He ended up in Memphis, Tennessee to help his family with a new Interstate Batteries distributorship. It was there in Memphis that he met his wife of 60 years, Scottie. They were married on September 2, 1965 - a date Tommy chose so he would never forget their anniversary, as it also happened to be his birthday.
In 1970 Tommy and Scottie moved to Dallas. Tommy joined his brother, Norm at the corporate office of Interstate Batteries. He became President and CEO in 1991 and retired in 2004, after 41 years. He continued to serve on the board but turned his attention toward missions. He was especially passionate about helping underprivileged children, believing every child deserved love, opportunity, and hope found through faith. Some of his favorites were Happy Hill Farm and Lionheart Children’s Academy, where he served on the board and supported fundraising efforts.
Tommy cherished time with his family, especially during the holidays and traveling together. His grandchildren brought him immense joy and pride. He enjoyed playing golf when he played well, (which wasn’t very often), but liked the comradery it brought. He loved watching his Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks and all kinds of sporting events.
Tommy is survived by his wife Scottie Miller, his daughters, Melissa and her husband JD Jones, and Monika and her husband Robby Barnes; his granddaughter Austin and her husband Will Mendiola, and his grandsons, Miller and Mason; and his brother Norm, and so many extended family members and friends who were blessed by his generosity and faith.
The family extends a special thanks to Caring Hands, especially to Lloyd, Michelle, Stacey and Judy for their compassion, care and support this past year.
Tommy will be remembered for his humor, faith, and generous heart for others. He found great peace in his relationship with Jesus Christ and desired the same for anyone who does not yet know Him. His legacy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, February 6, 2026, in Sparkman Memorial Chapel of Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Lionheart Academy, Skylark Camps, Happy Hill Farm in Tommy’s honor would be appreciated.
