Robert "Bob" Herman Sandlin passed away on March 6, 2025, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Born on October 1, 1934, in Gregg County, Texas, he was 90 years old. A devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, and a dedicated businessman of exemplary Christian values, Bob was known for his warmth, generosity, and signature sense of humor.
Bob's life was shaped by resilience and dedication. His biological father, Robert Herman Sandlin, passed away before Bob was born, and he was lovingly raised by his mother, Mildred Catherine Spencer, and his stepfather, Herbert Daum. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1953 and went on to study at Texas Tech University. His time at Texas Tech was interrupted when he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. After his military service, he returned to Texas Tech, where he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and earned his degree in architecture in 1964.
Bob married the love of his life, Deanna Davis, in September 1960 in Odessa, Texas. Their marriage was a shining example of unwavering love and partnership for nearly 65 years. He was deeply devoted to Deanna, always by her side, and cherished every moment spent together, especially when they were dancing--showcasing his signature western dance moves with pride.
His professional career was equally distinguished. Bob was an executive at Plains National Bank in Lubbock, TX, as well as First Federal Savings & Loan Incorporation, and Texas Real Estate Mortgages in Dallas, TX. Later, he became a long-time real estate developer in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, using his architectural expertise to design and develop properties, including their own homes.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bob embraced life with enthusiasm and charm. He was a sharp dresser, a passionate golfer, and an avid fisherman, always happiest when enjoying a peaceful afternoon on the water or a round of golf with his close friends or grandsons. He also loved a friendly poker game--so long as it wasn't too challenging--and a glass of Maker's Mark shared in good company. Despite his many successes, he never took himself too seriously and brought joy and laughter into every room he entered.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Herman Sandlin; his mother, Mildred Catherine Spencer; his stepfather, Herbert Daum; his stepson, David Mark Smith; as well as his grandparents and cousins.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Deanna; his brothers-in-law Roy Davis and Charles Michael Davis; his nephews Jay Reichman (Melada) and Robert Taylor; his niece Tiffany Kavanaugh; his daughter-in-law Janie Schroeder; his step-grandsons Sean (Lori) Reed and Cory (Lisa) Reed; his step-great-grandsons Carter and Graham Reed, and numerous beloved cousins.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Sparkman-Hillcrest (7405 W Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX), officiated by Jimmy Hopper and followed by a reception at the Sandlin home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice in Bob's honor.
Bob Sandlin's kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
