At Bishop Lynch he was one of my first classmates to get a car -- a Metropolitan about the size of today's Mini Cooper.  "Digger," as we used to call him, had a great sense of humor. The last time I saw Robert was at the wedding of George McIngvale, Jr., and the party at the DAC. May God rest your soul, Robert.

I am sorry we were unable to attend Robert's memorial service (we had family in from Wisconsin that weekend), but Mom said it was very moving. Robert was a good friend, with a quick smile and an irrepressible wit (although many of the priests at B.L. tried to suppress it!). His sense of humor won him membership in the "Unholy Triumverate", so dubbed by those priests when reffering to Digger, Tom McKee and me.

Robert was also a generous soul. I drove up to Dallas back in the 70's so that Robert could paint my fiancee's car in the Kam garage (thanks, Mr. Kam!). He used to give me rides to school when I first moved into Forest Hills and when he pulled up in front of the house, he made Cindy get into the back seat of that Nash Metropolitan convertible. Cindy, how you managed to fold your body up to fit into a space designed for two grocery bags is beyond me! Sorry 'bout that!

Tom, I think you and Robert were the inventors of the "man cave", with your own apartment separated from the main house. I will pass on telling any stories about that......

Tina and I have kept Robert in our prayers since we first communicated with him about his cancer and now your family have been included in those prayers. His "After Glow" was so typical of him.

Robert was a great friend and fantastic neighbor for over 22 years and we are so fortunate to have that part of our lives with him. He was truly a blessing to all he knew. He was remarkably optimistic, and his life was a celebration. While he will be greatly missed the memory of him will be influential on myself and family. We love you Boss!

My sincere sympathy to you on a fine son, brother,husband, father and gramps.

Class of 68, hard to believe that Robert is gone. When attending the funeral service this morning, as life does, memories of "Digger"came in torrents, back 40 years ago when I first knew him, me from St Thomas and him from St Bernards, both as freshmen at Lynch.

Digger? (my wife asked me, where did that come from?) I can only think back to his love of cars and the noise he used to make to sound like a car taking off! I really am not sure.

Cars. I wanted to but the old black flathead-four sedan he had, the one with the rims painted in a cross shape so they looked like spinners when driving! My Dad said no, I think the price was $200, and years later I came across that car, still running.

Robert was friends with Tommy & Tommy Cole, and when we rehearsed our first band,  if we didn't practice at their house it was at the Kam house.

Papa Kam saved me one time when my car transmission went out and my parents were out of town, I knew my call to Robert would be the way to get help. It  worked.

One day, on the way to school, when Digger was driving the Barracuda (or as we called it the Back-a-ruda), on pupose while waiting at a light I bumped him, barely touched him, and for the first and only time, I saw Robert mad.

There was no damage to his bumper or mine.

That lasted for a day, his smile returned, and we remained friends,

I will miss him, enjoyed seeing him at the class reunions, always tales to tell,

Again, my heart and prayers are with all of you.

I went through St. Bernard and Bishop Lynch with Robert and Tommy. I have fond memories of when  the three of us were in grade school and we had so much fun getting into mischief in the woods behind their house (there are houses there now). 
To his family, especially Tommy, please accept my deepest sympathy. I wish I could come to Dallas for the funeral, unfortunately I cannot. But my thoughts and prayers will be with the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the  family and extended family during this difficult and sad time. 

I had the pleasure of meeting Robert through Lana, whom I worked with for several years.  He always greeted you with a warm and friendly smile.  I will remember the many Victorian holiday parties that he and Lana so graciously hosted.  

It's so hard to say good-bye, but know that he is in a far more beautiful place.

My prayers are with the Kam family. I went all the way through St. Bernard's and Bishop Lynch with him.  He was always one of the nicest people in our class.  Robert was a constant at our BL class reunions. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I think our friendship started over 30 years ago when I first met Robert in a junk yard on Vilbig. Robert was one of the greatest guys I've ever known and I feel privelidged to have known him. He will be missed by a very large group of people here on earth. I wonder how many cars you can have in heaven?

My deepest sympathy to Robert's family and extended family.  It was great that Sue was with him during these difficult times.

Robert was a unique person who could always make you smile.  He had a definite knack for reviving vintage vehicles to look and perform pretty much "as new" when he was finished with them.  What he could achieve was nothing short of amazing, especially with old, aged paint and chrome.  Robert truly took the "vehicle caretaker" orientation to heart, reviving vehicles for others to enjoy  after he'd worked his magic . . . and enjoyed doing it . . . to make them roadworthy again.

Robert was a great guy.  He will be missed by myself and his many friends in the North Texas Chapter, Buick Club of America.  Some very enjoyable times were had when Robert and Lana hosted many chapter events at their restored Victorian home, and later by himself after Lana's passing.  Robert has left us with many great memories, which will be cherished.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and Sue Graves.  We wish we could be there to comfort and encourage. With Love,
