Robert Stewart Meador, M.D. passed away peacefully July 26, age 88. Bob was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Leonard, TX, and married his high school sweetheart, Jean McKenzie Moore, in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy V12 program from 1943-1945, and was a Lt. JG at the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi from 1949-1950. Working in pulmonary diseases at the Veterans Administration hospitals in McKinney and Dallas from 1954, he retired as assistant chief in 1979. Following retirement from the VA, he directed the outpatient department of UT Hospital in Tyler until 1984, and worked until his death as a medical advisor to the U.S. Department of Labor in Dallas. Bob loved art, poetry, old jazz and blues, fly fishing, his many Shih Tzus, and being with friends and family. In addition to his wife, survivors include stepchildren Louis “Buster” Moore and Jeannie Moore; grandchildren Jamie Conger, Tammy Mayott and Blue Grier; great-grandchildren Brittany Mayott, Hannah Blue Grier; and great-great-grandchild, Liam Mayott. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Seaborn “Seab” Meador. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral Service will be held Monday July 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. Burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park to follow.
