Bob, as he was known by his family and friends, graduated from high school in Paw Paw, Michigan, in 1956 and, at the young age of 16, went on to attend Wayne State University in Detroit. Bob served honorably in the United States Coast Guard on active duty from 1963 to 1964 and in the Reserves until 1971.
In 1968, Bob moved from his native Michigan to Houston, Texas, where he met the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Judy Alexander Mock. In 1971, Judy and Bob moved to Dallas, where they made their home and raised their children. While in Dallas, Bob worked as a civil engineer for Ruff Construction. A true raconteur, Bob was known for his gift of storytelling, keen memory and quick wit. He often quoted the Bible to his family, as well as Shakespeare, poets and philosophers. He had a youthful enthusiasm for recounting historical events and playing games with his grandchildren, routinely besting them at ping pong, bocci ball and chess. Most important to Bob were his Christian faith, his family and his friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who kept everyone thinking, learning and laughing. Bob had a brilliant mind and tender heart. Remembering the challenges he overcame is a constant source of strength for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Alexander Mock, his daughter Alicia Brooks, his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Betza Mock and his four grandchildren, Adelaide Brooks, Creston Brooks, Austin Mock and Sophia Mock. He is also survived by his loving older brother and sister-in-law, James (Jim) and Carol Mock of Sun City, SC. Bob’s contagious smile, warm and friendly greetings, and generous, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas on Tuesday, February 22nd at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please send a gift to Shriners Hospital for Children.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Mock family.
