

Robert was born on January 4, 1955 in Salzburg, Germany to Robert and Friederike Motley. Due to his father’s service in the army, he moved many times while growing up to places like Washington, Missouri, Kansas and Berlin, along with his sister Lillian. Robert graduated high school in 1973 in Junction City, KS. After high school, he attended the University of Kansas, where he developed a love for the Kansas Jayhawks (“Rock Chalk, Jayhawk”). Robert met the love of his life, Bruce Allen Skaines, and they built a life together in Houston, TX for several years. Robert’s final residence was in Dallas, TX. In 2012, he began volunteering at the Resource Center and volunteered 3,400 hours. In 2018, he joined their staff as a part-time Eligibility Specialist and remained employed until he became ill in 2024.
Robert loved his family, his dogs, sports (especially basketball) and hanging out with his friends. He was a loving “Uncle Bobby” to Jeffrey, Tiffany and Magan. In 2010, he became a great uncle and by 2019 had a total of 9 great nephews and nieces. In 2024, Robert welcomed his 1st great-great nephew. He loved the Kansas Jayhawks, the Dallas Cowboys, the Mavericks, the Stars and many more, filling his apartment with lots of sports memorabilia.
Robert is preceded in death by his husband Bruce Skaines, his father Robert Motley and his mother Friederike Kuscher-Motley. He is survived by his sister Lillian Motley-Matthews and her husband Dennis; his nephew Jeffrey Matthews and his wife Datha, his niece Tiffany Matthews-Benedetto and her husband Damon, his niece Magan Matthews-Webb and her husband Charles. He is also survived by his many great-nephews & nieces Madison and her husband Ryan, Colton, Kaylie, Joleigh, Hudson, Hunter, Parker, Mason and LilyAna and his great-great nephew Zander. Additionally, he is survived by his two beloved Jack Russell Terriers: Noel and Holly.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 6:00-8:00pm and his Remembrance of Life on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:00am. Both will be held at Calvary Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, TX.
