On December 2, 2021, Rosamond (Sandy) Grace Cornish Haughton went home to her Savior Jesus Christ. Rosamond, the youngest of five children, was born to William and Laura Cornish April 6, 1927, on the family farm in Tekamah, Nebraska.
After graduating from Tekamah High School, she moved to Omaha prior to moving to Los Angeles in 1947, where she became an American Airlines stewardess. She loved flying and relocated to New York City and then Dallas, Texas, where she met a true Texan, Frank Haughton ,on a blind date in 1950 and was married in 1951, for 60 years until his death in 2012. Following Frank’s career in the oil business led Frank and Sandy to live in Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico before returning to Dallas in 1960 to raise their three children. The focus of Sandy’s life was her faith, family and home. She enjoyed her Christian Garden Club, Square Dancing Club, Bible Study Fellowship and making her secret Christmas candy recipe. Attending Grace Bible Church and then Park Cities Presbyterian Church, she grew in her faith, living and believing that eternal life is gained only through faith in Jesus as her personal Savior.
Sandy and Frank’s greatest joy was always their family; she is survived by her children Frank and wife Shelley, Jane and husband John, Bill and wife Lori; 8 grandchildren, Ellie (Cameron), Ben (Kassy), Sam (Holly), Zach, Adam (Laura), Luke, Leslie Catherine (Reid), Jennie Lou: and 7 great-grandchildren, Charlie Rose, Claire, James, Ida, Anders, Olivia Grace and Elijah; as well as her wonderful nieces and nephews whom she cherished. Her presence will be deeply missed by all of us.
A memorial service will be held at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas, TX, 75219, at 3:00 pm, Monday, April 4, 2022. We are grateful for the wonderful care given to Mom in her last years by Trisha, Esther, Blake and Carla and also want to thank Dr. Beth Kassanov and nurse Mandy Jenkins for their love and care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to Park Cities Presbyterian Church www.pcpc.org or The Children’s Tumor Foundation www.ctf.org.
The following from The Heidelberg Catechism had special meaning to Sandy which she kept a copy of on her desk:
I believe that the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and everything in them, who still upholds and rules them by His eternal counsel and providence, is my God and Father because of Christ His Son. I trust Him so much that I do not doubt He will provide whatever I need for body and soul, and He will turn to my good whatever adversity He sends me in this sad world. He is able to do this because He is almighty God; He desires to do this because He is a faithful Father.
