Roy was born on March 19, 1929 in Randolph, Tx, the fourth of five children born to Elbert and Ina Redman Massey. His parents preceded him in death, as did his brothers Tom and Joe Massey and his sisters Lois Anderson and Freda Sanders.
His family moved from Fannin County to Dallas when Roy was a teenager. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed at Pearl Harbor.
On July 10, 1948, Roy married Grace Jones- the love of his life. They were happily married for 62 years and raised three daughters, Sandy Haley, Judy Jennings (Barry), Sherrye Brake (Mark), and one son, Roy Ray Massey, Jr. (Bree). Roy was predeceased by two precious little daughters, Carolyn Rae and Rebecca Christine Massey.
In 1976, Roy welcomed the first of his eleven grandchildren. He is survived by Ryan and Brandon Haley, Brooke Mack (Daniel), Melanie Titsworth
(Brian), Amanda Jennings, Josh Jennings (Jennifer), Jordan Massey (Amber), Jenna Vineyard (Adam), and Lauren, Baylee, and Dalton Brake. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Ashleigh and Katelyn Lam, David Titsworth, Cameron Jennings, Eli Jennings, Olivia and Carson Mack, and Emerson Mack, who is due to be born this month.
Roy was the consummate family man who deeply loved his wife and children and adored his grandchildren. He had the ability to make each grandchild feel cherished and the most special.
Roy owned his own paint contracting business for sixty years and leaves behind many wonderful customers and friends. He was a man of great intelligence and fortitude who never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He was an avid Texas Rangers fan and loved to bet the ponies.
His death will leave an incredible void, but we were lucky to love and have him with is all these years.
