

Sammie Jane Wester was a native Dallasite and retired educator born in 1940 in Oak Cliff at Methodist Hospital. After attending Adamson High School and growing up in Cliff Temple Baptist Church, she became a dedicated Baylor Bear and obtained her bachelor's degree there in history and English in 1961. She then spent time at the Texas A&M University at Commerce, earning her doctorate in Curriculum and Instructions. She became a junior and senior high school history teacher and personnel administrator in the Dallas Public Schools for many years before becoming an Assistant Superintendent for Personnel in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD and the Burleson ISD. After retirement, Sammie taught for two years at the Greenhill School in Dallas.
Sammie's other loves, besides music and history, were travel and photography. She taught in a DOD school in Germany for a year. Sammie was a singing member of the Women's Chorus of Dallas for ten seasons and was Executive Director of the organization for two years. Her last years were enjoyed at Presbyterian Village North.
A Memorial service in honor of Sammie has been scheduled in the chapel at Wilshire Baptist Church 4316 Abrams Road Dallas, Texas at 1:00 pm on September 19, 2025. Donations can be made to the Women's Chorus of Dallas in memory of Sammie.
