Sarah Megason Rawlings went to her forever home in Heaven on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the age of 95. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Sarah graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She had a long career at Atlantic Richfield Oil Company and retired at age 55.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Simpson Davlin, her husband Irving Rawlings, mother Berniece Owens, father Harold Smith and step-daughter Bettye Kaye Megason, Leland Megason and Fred Ward.
She leaves behind her only living child Randy Ward, his wife Freda Davis Ward, her grandchildren Jacqueline Ward, Sterling Ward, Brian Simpson and his wife Cassie, Kevin Simpson, great grandchildren Paisley Simpson, Kason Kaska, Kynlee Kaska, Jax Ward, Walker Ward and her extended family George and Janet Megason, Mallory Gillette and Austin Megason and their spouses and children.
Sarah “Nana”, always said she loved her family with her whole heart! She loved to country western dance and would tell stories about her times at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Senior Center. She also would tell stories and enjoyed Water Aerobics with Julie in Bedford and made many friends there who would play bridge on a regular basis. She would often tell us how she loved her time spent at Meadowood Assisted Living facility and could be seen most times at the domino table playing with her favorite partner Walt, or winning at Bingo and cards. She enjoyed all of the friends she made there, including Lisa.
Sarah loved her little dog Witten dearly. He moved to Meadowood with her and she could be seen sitting outside with him or greeting other residents at the facility. She would always say “everyone loves Witten”; Who now lives with her family.
Sarah could frequently be seen at her grandchildren’s events and loved to go to baseball games, soccer games and any school events her grandchildren and great grandchildren were in!
She was small in stature but big in spirit! Everyone would know Sarah was in the room she would tell people “that’s my son, or that’s my daughter-in-law or those are my grandchildren or great grandchildren.” She will be deeply missed by her family but we know she is dancing in Heaven right now or has a winning hand in dominoes.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2pm. Service will take place at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. Burial will immediately follow.
