Shirley was born June 17, 1942 in Tyler, Texas to her late parents former COGIC Pastor (Elder) Booker T. Johnson (1989) and Rosetta Daniels Johnson (1991). Shirley met her future husband, Hubert Woodson Jr. (Dallas County Youth Home Case Worker/Counselor at that time), in 1975, and they were married in April 1976. They were introduced by her former high school Principal Dr. Charlie Blanton. A fun loving description of what led to that encounter meeting was when Charlie and Hubert (Kimball was in his caseload) were talking in the hall in front of the school office. Charlie said to Hubert, see that person going away from us in the hall, THAT’S THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE IN THIS BUILDING. Hubert said, what’s her room number? Charlie said I will introduce you to her. That encounter turned out to be 45 years of marriage in April 2021.
