In Loving Memory

Sueshyant “Shawn” Rezaei passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 40 after a 2-year battle with Ewings Sarcoma. Born in Houston on May 31,1985, Sueshyant was a Renaissance spirit possessing a rare gift for enriching every conversation with laughter and authenticity. He was truly one of one — he would appreciate this watch reference as well. Family, his cats, and friends were at the heart of Sueshyant’s world. His home became a gathering place where laughter flowed as freely as the conversations, and where everyone felt welcomed, valued and was fed extremely well. These moments of connection — sharing food, discovering new music, and simply being present with loved ones — were when Sueshyant truly came alive.

As a child, Sueshyant lived with wonder in his eyes and a fire in his spirit — born a little early, in his mother’s words, “always in a hurry to come into this world.” As a baby, he sat quietly in his stroller attending science lectures with his father at the University of Houston, already absorbing the world with curiosity and calm. His early years were filled with rich experiences — splitting time between Houston, Iran, and eventually the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. Frequent trips to Iran connected him deeply to his heritage; there, his grandfather adored him so much he wept each time they parted. The first time Sueshyant ate watermelon — “nenune,” as he called it in baby talk — it became a lifelong favorite, lovingly served by his grandfather each day. It eventually would become the last food he ate.

Whether hiking through Lake Tahoe, watching his grandfather fan the fire whilst making kebabs, or enjoying fresh fruit from the family orchard; Sueshyant’s childhood was a vibrant mix of nature, family, humor, and culture. These early relationships — rooted in love, exploration, and identity — shaped the man he would become: endlessly curious, deeply bonded to his Persian roots, and full of joy in life’s simplest pleasures.

As a son, Sueshyant loved — and was deeply loved. He was his parents’ greatest adventure, deepest worry, and most profound joy, all rolled into one irreplaceable soul. From his first breath, they poured their hearts into him, and he returned it tenfold — through his laughter, his fierce curiosity, his accomplishments, and the gentleness he showed others. Even as he grew older, their bond never waned. He made them proud not only with what he achieved, but with how he lived — fearless, kind, and always reaching for more. In every season of life, he carried the very best of his family forward into the world — with grace, humor, and a heart that never stopped giving.

As a husband, he was everything. There was no one more important in Sueshyant’s adult life than his wife, Aubrey. From the day they met at Dougherty’s Pharmacy to the last moment when he held her face, their relationship was immensely deep. Together, they were the best versions of themselves rooted in an unwavering commitment to each other. They found joy in life’s many layers — traveling the world hand-in-hand, sharing quiet movie/show nights, discovering flavors and cultures, embracing one another’s hobbies and life passion, and cheering each other on through dreams both big and small. Sueshyant approached marriage the way he approached everything that mattered: with intention, reverence, and heart. To him, being a great husband wasn’t an obligation — it was a privilege. And a great husband he was.

As a brother, he was a source of guidance and strength. His innate ability to listen, not pass judgement, and offer comfort through vulnerability led to a strong brotherly bond. Sueshyant loved being a big brother, sharing his experiences to aid in navigating life’s challenges. And even when he faced the greatest challenge of his own life, being a consistently present brother remained a priority.

As an entrepreneur, he channeled his creative energy into building something from original ideas. He understood that the best ventures come from passion and authenticity, and he approached his work with the same enthusiasm he brought to all aspects of his life. His entrepreneurial spirit was driven not just by success, but by the desire to create something that would bring his family and friends together.

As a friend, there was no one better. He could drive you mad, but you could not stop loving him. His personality was infectious, anchored by his bold sense of humor and love of the culinary arts. His artistic expression was best on display through his cooking. There is not a single friend that did not enjoy the community feeling he created when cooking together and experiencing the quality food he created from scratch. From elaborate birthday celebrations, to UFC fights, and episodes of Always Sunny, he had deep and vulnerable connections with his friends. They were a very important part of his life, and they were equally as important to them.

His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his originality, creativity, and genuine care for others. He showed us that a well-lived life is one filled with artistic expression and deep relationships. His spirit of community and his appreciation for life's beautiful moments continue to inspire all who knew him.

May he find peace on his next adventure which he hoped would be a first-class interstellar journey across the cosmos.
