Dr. Sukumar Chaparala

Dr. Sukumar Chaparala, 62, of Dallas, TX passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, TX. He was born in Khammam, India on June 15, 1952 to Dr. Aswathama and Mrs. Lalita Chaparala.

Dr. Sukumar Chaparala excelled in school and entered Medical School at the young age of 15. During Medical School he was an avid decathlon athlete and received several awards and medals for his accomplishments. Sukumar also excelled at track and field and cricket.

While at Medical School, he met his future wife Ranjani, while renting the house next door to her. He would often take study breaks to play ping pong at her home.

On June 4, 1975 the two married and soon after immigrated to New York City, Preethi, their oldest daughter was born on November 2, 1978. After completing his residency in New York the family moved to Blackwell, OK in 1981. The couple’s second daughter Trisha was born on April 14, 1983.

For 31 years Sukumar served and treated countless patients at his private practice, Osler Clinic in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Sukumar is well remembered for his generosity often times treating patients for free who were uninsured. Through his practice he saved many lives. Sukumar and Ranjani moved from Blackwell in 2007 where he ended a very successful career as a beloved physician.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Ranjani. He is survived by his wife Joan and step-son Carlos Lummis both of Plano, TX; daughter Preethi Chaparala of New York City; daughter Trisha and son in law Patrick and granddaughters Maya and Esha of Stillwater, OK; 3 brothers Satish of Hyderibad, India, Kishore of El Cerrito, CA, Dilip of Georgetown, TX; two sisters Asha of Tampa, FL and Meena of Ann Arbor, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at The Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, 2215 Ross Ave., Dallas, TX 75201. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX.
