She was born with amazing large blue shining eyes and a stunning smile, which contributed to her sweet, fun, and active life. She met the first two of her three lifelong friends at age 4, Sharon Jarman and Mary Myrick. As a child the three girls were inseparable. They were Campfire Girls together and they played and spent the night together often. As they grew older, they played hide & seek and football in the street with the neighborhood boys. This created lifelong issues with her knees. Their sophomore year they met Connie Conatser and they became the Four Musketeers and are all still friends today. The four girls worked at Margo’s La Mode during high school together at North Park Mall and could make it to El Fenix at the other end of the mall for lunch and back in 30 minutes. Suzan and her family love eating at El Fenix.
Suzan has a sister two years older Kathy, and a sister nine years younger Chris. The family is Episcopalian and attended St. Francis, Good Shepard, and St. Mathias respectively. The family celebrated all holidays with fun and flair. Her parents believed in big birthday parties, boats, airplanes, swimming, parties with their neighbors, and traveling to see their many relatives each year. Suzan loved to swim with her friends at Sandy Lake Park and she was in Choir all of her school years. Suzan loved to sing and has a beautiful soprano voice. She is now singing in heaven with her mom, older sister, and many aunts.
After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School Suzan married Don Fleshman and moved to Oklahoma. They had one amazing son, Gil Don Fleshman, who is still amazing today. In 1979 she and Gil moved back to Dallas to be near her family. She met her future husband and the love of her life Tommy Murray from Ft. Worth at the Bellringer Club on lower Webbs Chapel extension. They were married in the summer of 1984 and have had 45 ½ years of celebrating their life together.
Suzan & Tom started the first part of their married life in Richardson & Carrollton TX. At that time Suzan worked for a local printing company called Quebecor for many years. During that time they joined The Aardvark’s Club with friends from Irving and they are still card-carrying members today. They had many friends in the Dallas, Irving, and Ft. Worth areas. They loved parties and traveling, golfing, skiing, the beach, boating and meeting friends for Happy Hour. They always celebrated Halloween in great costumes and that is how they met. Tom was in a mask, and she could not see his face, but she knew she liked him immediately. After that party she would say, “I wonder if that guy in the mask will be there tonight”, and he was. They celebrated all the holidays in a big way and Suzan has a decoration tub for every month of the year for the house and at least twelve for Christmas. They were a family of five with Gil, and Tom’s two sons Chad and Justin Murray. The three boys looked alike and had plenty of fun together.
In 2001 they loaded up and moved to a house on the lake at Cedar Creek Reservoir. Where they met and made another large group of friends. They had lake parties on the boat and on their dock, monster yard and deck every weekend, sometimes even in the winter with a bonfire and the hot tub.
In 2017, they were looking for a place for future retirement and ended up building a beautiful home on the 18th hole of the Pinnacle Club Golf course, where they met and made over a hundred more friends.
Suzan became the Social Butterfly she was born to be. She joined the Pinnacle Women’s Club, and was active in all social functions and organizations. These women became her life support for the next seven years. These women travel to exciting Texas cities, have gala’s and fund raisers for local charities, Wine & Women Wednesday’s, Canasta, and many more activities that make these women her family. The men in the Pinnacle Club are just as much of a life support and friendship as the women are. One of her favorite times is each day after golf anywhere from ten to 30 men will come sit on their patio which faces the 18th hole and provide snacks and talk and laugh with them for however long they could stay. The family of Suzan are so grateful that she and her husband Tom have this wonderful community of friends that will always be a part of our family.
Suzan passed away on Wednesday February 26 at 6:30am with her husband Tom, her sister Chris, her son Gil, and daughter-in-law Cynthia, all holding her telling her we love her, and her gift to us was one of her big bright beautiful smiles that she is famous for.
