Sue Padgett passed away in peace at her home in Dallas, Monday, September 22nd, united once again with her beloved husband Don Padgett. Sue and Don shared a rich life together, providing each other love, support and inspiration while raising three children and four grandchildren. As a mom, Sue was the perfect balance of guide, role model, source of inspiration and friend. She inspired her children and grandchildren to explore their world in new ways, while always helping them maintain the strong internal compass that her deep Catholic faith provided her.
Sue was born Florence Suzanne Verhalen in Dallas on December 1, 1932 to Walter and Florence Verhalen. She attended Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University. She and Don were married in 1960, beginning a life together filled with love, creation, travel and joy. Their first home was at the “end” of Royal Lane, later moving to their forever home in Preston Hollow, where they would raise their three children David, Elizabeth and Allan. Sue was an active member of her community, sharing her passion for life with the Dallas Women’s Club, Junior League and Northwood Hills Women’s Club.
It was her passion for artistic creation, however, that inspired her days and years – and in turn inspired those who were lucky enough to be around her. From the moment she brought home a pottery wheel and started it spinning, the artist inside Sue blossomed, always exploring new directions and media. Many would come to know her through stunning floral arrangements for weddings and receptions. Others would come to know her from her years as a metalsmith, making unique bracelets, pendants and necklaces. And her most recent turn to acrylic painting inspired her entire family to begin their own artistic journeys, ensuring that Sue’s passion will be with us forever.
After 92 inspiring years, Sue’s soul is now with God, but she will always remain with those lives she touched along her life’s journey. Please join us celebrating her inspirational life at Christ the King on October 8th at 10:00am.
