Sylvia began her studies in Marketing at University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, later transferring to the University of North Texas in Denton where she graduated with a degree in Marketing. Sylvia worked for several marketing agencies in Dallas, reveling in the creativity of her marketing career. She was most proud of her accounts with the Dallas Cowboys and Bud Light; they truly were the highlight of her illustrious career. Her marketing career allowed her to travel frequently, which only enriched her love for her work.
After her father passed in 2010, she decided to leave her fast-paced marketing career behind to move back to the Rio Grande Valley to care for her mother. She loved her family deeply, but had a particularly close and warm relationship with her mother. During this quality time, they were fortunate enough to travel around Europe together. She always enjoyed quality time spent with family and friends, individually and in groups. She was an amazing provider for her mother, but eventually realized she missed her home of 20 years in Dallas. Regardless, she’d return for fun filled, month long visits with her loved ones.
Sylvia was fun loving, free spirited, creative, and passionate. She was a wonderful and faithful friend, always offering to help at kid’s birthday parties, weddings, holiday decorating traditions, and even to help clean and organize their homes! She had a beautiful soul, warm heart, and could made sense and order out of the most chaotic of messes. To those she knew best, she’d tease with quirky quotes like “ay vieja,” “ya me canse,” or “me cansastes.” Her infectious laughter and bubbly personality could outshine even the darkest of days. Sylvia will always be missed and remembered fondly and lovely.
Sylvia is survived by her loving mother who she loved dearly, Emma M. Galván and three beautiful and loving sisters: Rosy Galvan Rodriguez (Ruben) of McAllen, Yolanda Galvan Rodriguez (Pepe) of Miami, and Letty Adame (Bobby) of Pharr. Sylvia was very proud of her nieces and nephews: Cristina Rodriguez Whitney (Scott), Gina , Roberto, and Andres. Her loving father, Arturo Galván, precedes her in death. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 29th at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 505 South Ironwood, Pharr, Texas at 2:00 pm.
