Thomas (Tom/Tim) Howell Hight Jr., 76, of Dallas, passed away on August 19, 2025. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Jean Caldwell Hight, his father, Thomas Howell Hight Sr., and his brother George Alexander Lee Hight. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Tricia (née Edwards); his sister Hillary Daw; his sons Thomas (Lindsay), Jere (Andrea), Jack (Cate), and Robert (Jessica); his grandchildren Thomas, Lawrence, Cora, Julia, Hope, Eliza, and Sophie; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was born on February 9, 1949, in Austin, where his crib was shadowed by the UT tower. He attended Highland Park High School and was a proud graduate of Yale University. While at Texas Law School, he married Tricia and had his first son. Three more sons followed after he graduated and moved back to Dallas, where he practiced law for more than two decades at the firm of Hight and Hight. He was a long-time member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where he was active in adult education. He later embarked on his beloved “retirement career” as an administrative law judge for the state of Texas. Tom had a profound respect for the law, which grew from his lifelong commitment to doing the right thing.
Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved coaching his sons in their elementary school years and as they grew older, attended every game they played through middle and high school – almost a thousand games in all. He taught his children to love movies, games, Texas football, and the Cowboys. He often said that there was nothing he had done in life that he was prouder of than raising his children. He loved getting to be “Granddaddy” to their kids.
He was brilliant. He was kind. He was loved.
A celebration of his life will be held in Wynne Chapel of Highland Park Presbyterian Church on September 26th at 10 am. Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Park Presbyterian music department or the charity of your choice.
