Velma Boss Lucas was born September 8, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, to the union of Alfred (Bay)
Boss, Jr., and Ruby Reed Boss. In 1949, the family moved to Bayou Rapides, Louisiana.
Velma was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. Dr. G.C. Jacob at the Second Evening Star Baptist
Church. She was educated in the Rapides Parish School System and graduated from Peabody High
School in May of 1962.
She united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Clarence Lucas, Jr., on June 30, 1962. They were
blessed with three children and remained inseparable for nearly 60 blessed years.
When her children all became school age, Velma worked briefly as a jeweler and at Aetna Insurance
before her husband informed her that her job was costing more than it was profiting, so they decided that
her calling was to be a full-time stay-at-home wife and mother.
She united with the Concord Baptist Church where she remained faithful until God called her off the
battlefield.
Velma Boss Lucas was called from labor to reward on the evening of February 24, 2022, after a very
brief illness. She was preceded in death by her son, Alfred Darrin Lucas, granddaughter, Candicia
Graham, parents, Alfred and Ruby Boss, siblings, Ivory and Gladys Boss; Mother-in-Law, Joanna Lucas;
siblings-in-laws, Almo, Levi, Leroy, Bennie Lucas; and Claudia Liggins.
